Barry Boggs was one of the finest athletes in the history of Southwestern at Memphis.

A multi-event athlete, Barry often scored enough points in track and field meets that his total would eclipse the total scores of the opponent’s team. Barry was a force as a hurdler and sprinter and in the long jump and high jump.

Track and Field Head Coach Freeman Marr remarked that had Barry concentrated only on the high jump, he would have been invited to the Olympic Track and Field Trials with an opportunity to make the 1968 Olympic Team.

Barry took the student-athlete role seriously and excelled in the classroom. Upon graduation from Southwestern, he continued his passion for learning by earning two PhDs, in Psychology and Divinity. Barry was also heavily involved in campus life and served as Commander of Sigma Nu Fraternity.

Rhodes is honored to induct William Barry Boggs into the Rhodes Athletic Hall of Fame on this 30th day of September, 2023.
