Rhodes Athletic Hall of Fame
Whether it was turning a double into a triple or having a great eye at the plate, Scott Franklin possessed a second sense, a natural feel for the game of baseball unparalleled by a Rhodes baseball player.  To add to Scott’s great feel for the game, he had great speed and an amazing first step.  Along with Hall of Fame teammate Brian Vandegrift, Scott and Brian combined to produce one of the best hitting, running and fielding duo’s in the history of Rhodes baseball.
Â
Scott had a phenomenal baseball career at Rhodes.  He was a four year starter and was selected the Most Valuable Player on the team in 1993 and 1994.  Scott was named to the All Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) team his sophomore, junior and senior seasons.  In 1992 he led the SCAC in triples (7), in 1993 he led the SCAC in hitting with a .381 average and 33 runs scored.  In 1994 Scott led the SCAC with 39 stolen bases and 30 walks.  His 39 stolen bases ranked 5th nationally in NCAA Division III.  Scott currently ranks #1 in the SCAC records book with .78 stolen bases per game and #2 in SCAC history with  .15 triples per game.Â
Â
Scott’s second sense in baseball also extended to the gridiron.  Using his outstanding speed and athleticism, Scott was a three year starter at cornerback where he was often asked to cover the opposing team’s best wide receiver.  He was named All SCAC at defensive back for his great play during the 1993 season.Â
Â
Being a successful student and a two-sport athlete requires great time management, self-discipline, commitment and dedication. Â Scott Franklin combined these character traits as well as any athlete in Rhodes history. Â For his spectacular play on Stauffer and Fargason Fields, Rhodes is honored to induct WILLIAM SCOTT FRANKLIN into the Rhodes Athletic Hall of Fame this 25th day of October, 2013.
