Vision, commitment, patience and passion are just a few of the characteristics that describe Sepp Huber’s involvement with soccer. A true pioneer in his field, Sepp laid the foundation for soccer as we know it today at Rhodes as well as in the greater Memphis area.

Hired in 1976, Sepp coached Rhodes’ first-ever men’s soccer team. In thirteen years (1976-88) as the Lynx coach, his teams won six College Athletic Conference Championships. Sepp established Rhodes as both a conference and regional soccer power. He developed many outstanding players including Ian Jones, who still holds the conference record with 77 goals in a season. Sepp also organized Memphis’ first youth soccer league in 1968 and served on the founding committees of the Tennessee soccer coaching and referees associations.

Sepp lived and breathed soccer. It was not unusual for him to arrive at Rhodes at 6 a.m. for a morning practice, go on to put in eight hours at his full-time job, return to campus for an afternoon practice and work with two youth teams in the evening before finally arriving home at 10 p.m. Sepp was recognized in 1982 as the Tennessee Amateur Coach of the Year and was named one of the top four amateur coaches in the country.

In recognition of tireless devotion to his sport and his extraordinary efforts in establishing a strong soccer program at Rhodes, we are honored to induct SEPP HUBER into the athletic Hall of Fame this 26th day of October, 2001.
