When Sharwil Bell arrived at Rhodes in the fall of 2009, she immediately had a huge impact on the Women’s Basketball program. In her first season, Sharwil was named SCAC Newcomer of the Year, led the team in scoring, and was 3rd Team All-SCAC. In 2010-2011 and 2011-2012, Sharwil was named 1st Team All-SCAC.

Sharwil, a Division 1 transfer from Elon College, was one of the most complete players in Lynx history. According to Head Coach Matt Dean, “Sharwil is one of the greatest to ever play the game of basketball at Rhodes. She could do everything on the floor—score, pass, rebound, shoot, and defend. All our players gravitated to her, and she outworked everyone in every drill of practice and on every possession of a game. It was a privilege and an honor to Coach Sharwil Bell.”

In three seasons as a Lynx, she started 78 games, scored 1,247 points, and ranked seventh all-time in school history at the time of her graduation. Sharwil also amassed 574 rebounds, 168 steals, and 167 assists. Furthermore, she averaged 16.1 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. In her senior season, she captured the SCAC scoring title by averaging 19.2 points per game and was a Josten’s nominee for the D-III Women’s Basketball Player of the Year.

A captain her junior and senior year, Sharwil was a 2012 NCAA Woman of the Year Finalist and a recipient of the 2012 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. She was also selected to the Rhodes Student Hall of Fame in 2012.

In recognition of her dedication to women’s basketball as one of the greatest players in school history, we are honored to induct Sharwil Bell into the Rhodes College Athletic Hall of Fame this 30th day of September, 2023.
