It is no accident that Molly Buck’s arrival on the Rhodes campus in 2007 marked the first of 14 consecutive conference championships for the Lynx Track & Field Team. By her senior year, she had rewritten the record book, establishing seven top marks in hurdle, sprint, and relay events. Three of these records still stand today.

A six-time NCAA National Qualifier in the hurdles and sprints, Molly earned All-American honors at the 2010 National Championship Meet. Her third-place finish in the 400 Meter Hurdles ranks as the second-highest finish at the national meet by a Rhodes Track & Field athlete. In addition, she was a 17-time All-SCAC performer and captured 12 individual and relay SCAC titles. She is the All-Time SCAC record holder in the 400 hurdles, and currently holds six SCAC All-Time top five performances.

“Molly’s tenacity, athleticism, and no-nonsense approach set the tone for what is today the standard for Rhodes Track & Field,” said Coach Robert Shankman. “Well respected and loved by her teammates, she was an incredibly positive team captain and motivator. She displayed a grit and will to win that was infectious. She made everyone around her better.”

Building on Molly’s individual success, the Lynx were consistently ranked as a top-three team in the NCAA Southeast Region during her tenure. Beginning with her freshmen year, Rhodes boasted 34 NCAA national qualifying performances over the following 10 years, ending DePauw and Trinity University’s long-time domination in the SCAC. Molly also was a member of Rhodes’ first-ever national qualifying 400 and 1600 meter relay teams.

In recognition of Molly’s leadership qualities and accomplishments on the track, Rhodes is proud to induct Molly Buck into the Rhodes Athletic Hall of Fame this 30th day of September, 2023.
