McKay Boswell has been winning for his alma mater since the day he graduated in the spring of 1938. Whether he’s been running hurdles as an outstanding track athlete, organizing his class reunion or calling friends to raise needed funds for the college, McKay Boswell has been a positive force at Rhodes College since the day he arrived.

McKay participated in track during the 1936, 1937 and 1938 seasons. In 1936 he placed second in the 220-yard hurdles at the State Intercollegiate Meet at the University of Tennessee. In 1937 he set the state and Southwestern record in the 220 hurdles with a time of 24.9. McKay held the 220 hurdles record for so long they stopped running the race in the early 1960s, so he’s still the school record holder in the 220-yard hurdles.

Whenever Rhodes has needed leadership or stewardship, McKay Boswell has been there for his alma mater and classmates. He was the vice president of his senior class and the Sigma Nu Fraternity. Since 1948 he has served as the president of the Class of 1938 and has organized class reunions from 1953 to 1998. On numerous occasions the Class of ’38, under McKay Boswell’s leadership, has led all alumni classes in most funds donated and highest participation by a class.

For his outstanding accomplishments as a student leader and athlete and for his loyalty, dedication and service to his alma mater, Rhodes is honored to induct JOHN MCKAY BOSWELL, JR. into the Rhodes Athletic Hall of Fame this 22nd day of October, 2004.
