In addition to his feats in Mallory Gym, Joe was an outstanding baseball player for the Lynx. He was awarded the Gold Award for his stellar play on the diamond.

For his accomplishments in the classroom and in athletics, Joe received the Seidman Award, given to the most outstanding student-athlete in the senior class. He was tapped by Omicron Delta Kappa and was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
