Rhodes Athletic Hall of Fame
Whether he was dazzling fans in Mallory Gym with his last second shots and tenacious defense or inspiring classmates with leadership in numerous student activities, Mike Gonda was a winner for the Lynx. As Coach Herb Hilgeman so aptly stated, “With the game on the line, Mike always delivered when the pressure was on.”
A native of Memphis and graduate of Christian Brothers High School, Mike hit the floor running for the Lynx the day he arrived. He was selected First-Team All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference each of his four years and served as team Captain for three years. In 1992 Mike was named the SCAC Player of the Year. He currently holds the single season assist record, ranks second in career assists and third on the all-time scoring list. In 1994 Mike was awarded the prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.
Mike didn’t spend his free time idly. In 1994 he was the cochair of the first-year orientation program and served as a student representative to the Board of Trustees. He was a member of Mortar Board, Sigma Nu fraternity and Omicron Delta Kappa. For his accomplishments both on and off the court, Mike was voted Mr. Rhodes by his classmates in 1994.
Mike joins a distinguished group of student-athletes who have been inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame. For the thrills he provided in Mallory Gym, his academic success and commitment to service, we are proud to induct Gregory Michael Gonda into the Rhodes Athletic Hall of Fame this 20th day of October, 2006.
