Rhodes volleyball goes 1-1 in invitational tournament

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Rhodes Volleyball opened conference play on Saturday with a 3-1 win over Hendrix College and then fell to East Texas Baptist College in five sets by a score of 3-2.
 
The win and loss moves the Lynx back to 2-8 while Hendrix finished the day 6-4 while ETBU moved to 7-3.
 
In the first match against Hendrix the Lynx came out strong, shocking the warriors to a first game set score of 25-16. In the set Rhodes had 13 total kills to Hendrix's 11 set one kill total.
 
The Second set proved to be much of the same as the Lynx pulled away and never looked back, finishing strong with a score of 25-14. Rhodes tallied up 12 kills while the Warrior managed five kills.
 
In the third set, the Lynx let off the gas and the results showed as Hendrix charged back to take the third set 25-23. Rhodes still managed to get a match high 18 kills, while Hendrix produced a total of 14 in the game.

Rhodes sealed the deal in the fourth set, scoring their biggest score difference, 25-11. The Lynx swung for 14 kills in the final set.
 
Leading the charge against Hendrix was Catherine Grimes, who's kills totaled 19. Alexis Krall added 17 kills of her own with a hitting percentage of .406. Michelle Quina led the assist category with 46 total. Maraia Tremarelli sprawled for 30 digs in the contest while Grimes added 10 herself as well as four aces.
 
In their second match of the day the Lynx fell to East Texas Baptist in five sets with scores of 21-25, 25-16, 22-25, 25-19 and 15-12.
 
Category leaders for the Lynx were Krall with 16 kills, Grimes with 14 and Stephanie Renner with 11. Quina grabbed 43 assists in the outing. Tremarelli dug 27 balls, while Tasha Heller managed 21 digs. Grimes added 14 digs, Leah Washburn contributed 12 and Quina added 10.
 
The Lynx will be back in action Sunday Sept. 15 in day two of the Rhodes invitational as they face Austin College at 9 a.m. followed by a match up with UT Tyler at 1 p.m.
