Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Lynx Roll Over Rust Bearcats

The Rhode's men used an early push in the second half to roll over the Rust College Bearcats on Tuesday, December 6th.  After a 38 to 26 lead going into the halftime break, the Lynx came out of the locker room looking to take command of the game.  Rhodes used a couple of scoring runs in the second half to take a controlling 78 to 50 lead with 5:27 remaining.  Junior Andrew Galow had a game-high 20 points, while sharp-shooting Sophomore Michael Gallagher came off the bench to drop 19 points.  Rhodes got the opportunity to clear the bench and get some valuable playing experience for their young freshman, as they closed out Rust with a 86 to 62 victory.

A short turnaround after a good conference weekend did not affect the Lynx, as they were ready to start a winning streak.  Rhodes took a 6 to 4 lead with 17:47 remaining and never looked back.  The Lynx took their biggest lead at the buzzer as Sophomore Shane Watson passed to Junior Andrew Galow behind the three-point line and Galow knocked it down as time expired.  Rhodes took a 38 to 26 lead at half, led by Galow's 12.

The Lynx came out of the locker room ready to close out the Bearcats from Rust.  A pair of 8-0 runs in the second half pushed Rhodes lead to 28 points with 5:27 remaining.  Rhodes kept the Bearcats in check over the last five minutes as they finished the night with a 86 to 62 win.

Rhodes held Rust to a half court game, stifling the Bearcats to 42% shooting and limiting them to 1 for 15 from the three-point line.  Bearcats Senior guard Markeith Wilson was held scoreless (0-10), as he came into the game averaging 27 points per game.  Montgomery and Veasley led Rust with 12 points a piece.

Offensively, the Lynx went on a three-point barrage against the Bearcats matchup zone, shooting 46% (15-33) from the three-point line.  Galow and Gallagher each tossed in four three-pointers, while Sophomores Patrick McGrail and Johnny Dunavant chipped in with 3 and 2 three point field goals respectively.  Andrew Galow led the Lynx with 20 points on 7 for 11 shooting, while adding 3 rebounds and 5 assists.

The victory gives Rhodes their first winning streak in two years, and improves the Lynx record to 6-2.  It is time for Rhodes student-athletes to focus on finals, as they do not get back on the court again until Friday, December 17th, when they host Huntingdon College at the Rhodes College Christmas Invitational - sponsored by Crowne Plaza Downtown.
