Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Lynx Rally Falls Short

Rhodes could not get over the hump on Sunday December 18th, as their second half rally fell a little short, losing to the University of Chicago Maroons 88 to 79.  Getting behind by twenty points in the first half, the Lynx used a 23 to 6 run early in the second half to get back within three, but could not grab hold of the lead.  Rhodes was led by Junior Andrew Galow who tallied 28 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists.

A poor second ten minutes of the first half saw the Maroons use a 26 to 8 run to stretch their lead to twenty points, 43 - 23.  Hot shooting Senior guard Matt Johnson sparked the offensive for Chicago.  Johnson shot 8 for 11 in the first half for 22 points.  Cooling down slightly, Johnson ended the night with a game-high 37 points, including 8 for 14 from the three point line.

Rhodes was ready for a battle in the second half.  The Lynx opened up the second half on a 23 to 6 run over the first eight minutes to cut the Maroons lead to 49 to 46.  Rhodes hung around, but was not able to get closer than two points the remainder of the night (65 - 63 with 5:35 remaining).  Defensively the Lynx struggled giving up a season-high 88 points, allowing Chicago to shoot 50% for the game.

Senior Kory Kilpatrick had another solid night, scoring 17 points on 7 of 10 shooting, to go along with 9 rebounds and 3 assists.  Johnny Dunavant had four three pointers in the second half to finish the night with 18 points.   Chicago guard Charlie Hughes was the only other Maroon than Johnson in double figures with 13 points.

Rhodes heads home for Christmas break with an overall record of 7 wins and 3 loses, 2 wins and 0 loses in SCAC conference play.  After Christmas the Lynx will head to Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia to play the #5 ranked team in the nation on December 29th.  Conference play will continue on January 2nd against Millsaps.
