Rhodes Men Fall At #5 Emory

12/29/2011 9:26:00 PM

The Rhodes Lynx headed into Atlanta looking to knock off the #5 Eagles of Emory University on Thursday, December 29th, but the Eagles had other plans.  Emory used a offensive explosion in the second half from the three point line to pull away from the Lynx.  A 35 to 12 run over the middle ten minutes of the second half pushed the Eagles lead to a game-high 26 points.  Rhodes ended the night losing 84 to 66.

A competitive first half saw both teams offensive on display.  Both the Lynx and the Eagles tallied over twenty points in the paint over of the first twenty minutes.  Going into the break Rhodes only trailed by six, 39 -33, despite missing multiple open three point looks.

The Lynx came out firing in the second half, cutting the Emory lead to 3 points with 15:19 remaining, but the Eagles offensive heated up from that point forward.  A 35 to 12 run over the next ten minutes saw the Lynx fall behind by a game-high 26 points.  The run saw Emory connect on 8 of 10 three point field goals during that span.  The final read Rhodes 66, Emory 84.

Emory was paced with four players in double figures, including two players chipping in 9 points.  Junior Michael Friedberg led the Eagles with 16 points, while Senior Austin Claunch had 13 points to go along with 12 assists.  Emory shot 48% on the night and 54% from beyond the arc.

Junior Andrew Galow led the Lynx with a game-high 20 points, a game-high 8 rebounds, and 6 assists.  Fellow upperclassmen Theo Hartwell chipped in with 11 points and 7 rebounds.  The Lynx shot it well from inside the arc, but only managed to go 4 for 22 from three point range.

Rhodes finishes the calendar year with a record of 7 wins and 4 losses.  The Lynx will start the new year with conference foe Millsaps College on Monday, January 2nd at 5:00pm.
