Box Score 2 After hosting their season opener at home, the Rhodes College field hockey team took a weekend trip to Ohio and Indiana in a cat-filled event as both opponents have Tigers as their mascot. The Lynx first faced off against Wittenberg University and lost 3-1 before rebounding with a shutout victory over DePauw University (5-0). Rhodes is now 2-1 on the year.
Wittenberg
Hailey Mules netted the lone goal for the Lynx against the Tigers for her fourth goal in just two games as she got the scoring started on the weekend. Rhodes scored in the eighth minute before Wittenberg tied the game in the 22nd minute and then took the lead for good just three and a half minutes later.
Both teams were relatively even in shots, as Witt edged the Lynx 12-9. The Tigers earned just one more penalty shot than Rhodes.
DePauw
Mackenzie Busby scored the first and last goals of the game against the Tigers of DePauw. Also scoring were
Lizzie Wood and
Jillian Christensen. Assists in the shutout were recorded by
Lydia Slyter during the second goal and
Julia Schiciano right before the half. Rhodes led DePauw 3-0 at halftime as they outshot the Tigers 23-14 and held a 14-9 penalty corner advantage.
On the weekend, senior
Laura Eckelkamp was pretty busy as she tallied a total of 12 saves.
Rhodes is on the road for two games, both hosted at Johns Hopkins University. The Lynx will face the Blue Jays as well as Christopher Newport Sept. 15 & 17.
