Game Recap: Rhodes vs. Maryville University (Mo.)
The Rhodes College field hockey team continued its perfect start to the 2026 season with a 4-1 victory over Maryville University on Sept. 16 at Mason Field in Memphis, Tenn. The Lynx improved to 4-0 on the season after scoring three times in the second half and controlling the offensive pressure throughout the contest.
Rhodes opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when Bella Spina found the back of the cage off an assist from Maria Zaporozhski. Alder Dickey added to the lead just before halftime, scoring at the 34:33 mark to send the Lynx into the break with a 2-0 advantage.
Key Performances
Spina led the Rhodes attack with two goals, scoring once in each of the first two halves. Her first goal came in the 23rd minute before she added her second at 43:55 to give the Lynx a 3-0 lead.
Dickey added a goal of her own late in the second quarter, while Zaporozhski capped Rhodes' scoring in the fourth quarter after finding the cage at the 46:20 mark off an assist from Meredith Dunn.
Zaporozhski also contributed an assist on Spina's opening goal, giving her a goal and an assist on the afternoon.
Game Highlights
Rhodes controlled the offensive action, finishing with 19 shots, including 13 on goal. The Lynx also held Maryville to nine total shots and seven shots on goal while earning five penalty corners.
After taking a 2-0 lead into halftime, Rhodes added two quick goals early in the second half. Spina scored at 43:55 before Zaporozhski found the cage just over two minutes later to extend the advantage to 4-0.
Maryville scored its lone goal at 58:47, but the Lynx defense held firm during the remainder of the contest to secure the 4-1 victory.
With the win, Rhodes improves to 4-0 on the season.
