In the first round of the Rhodes College Thanksgiving Classic, sponsored by the Crowne Plaza Downtown, the Lynx defeated Principia College - 77 to 43. Rhodes used a balanced attack, with 13 players scoring and all 16 getting on the stat sheet. With the victory, the Lynx will face the Ohio Wesleyan Bishops in the Championship game tomorrow at 3:00pm.
Rhodes used solid defense and a mentality to pound the ball in the paint to take an early advantage. The Lynx scored 49 points in the paint, managed to outrebound Principia by 17, and held the opponent to 31% shooting from the field.
Sophomores Mike Gallagher and
Shane Watson led the team in scoring with 11 points apiece, however 13 Lynx chipped in. Watson finished the game with 11 points and 6 rebounds. Juniors
Andrew Galow and
Theo Hartwell each helped the team with 9 points, 6 rebounds, and a steal.
Rhodes moves their record to 3-1 with the victory and will go back at it on Saturday for the championship of the Rhodes College Thanksgiving Classic - sponsored by Crowne Plaza.
