Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Rhodes Men Notch First Home Victory

Rhodes took care of Covenant College on Tuesday November 22nd to notch their first home victory of the season.  The Lynx struggled shooting in the first half, bothered by the Scots length in their 1-3-1 defense.  With a few halftime tweaks, the tide turned offensively for the Lynx in the 2nd half as they were able to find more easy baskets.  With less than 2:00 remaining the Scots had tied the Lynx, however, Rhodes used a closing 9 to 0 run to finish off Covenant, 67 - 58.

Covenant opened the game in a 1-3-1 half court zone that troubled the Lynx.  Early turnovers by Rhodes led to easy layups for the Scots as they opened up an early 5 to 0 lead.  Rhodes battled back defensively and held their opponent to 36% shooting, and only 23 points through the first twenty minutes.  At the half, Rhodes claimed a 26 to 23 lead.

The second half went back and forth until the Lynx opened up a nine point advantage with under ten minutes to play.  However, the Scots were not going down without a fight.  Covenant used a quick 9-0 run, sparked by Junior Guard Callum Sears, to tie the game at 42.  Sears finished the night with a game-high 23 points on 8 of 15 shooting.

After scoring no points in the first half, Junior Andrew Galow grabbed the lead back for the Lynx with an amazing basket  and one finish.  On the  next possession he added two free throws and the Lynx had their comfortable lead once again.  Galow finished the night with 10 points to go along with 4 assists.

One more attempt from the Scots saw the scored tied with under two minutes to play.  Back to back three pointers by Sophomore Johnny Dunavant and Freshman Geoff Livsey were the key to Rhodes 9 to 0 run to end the game.  Dunavant finished the night with 13, while Geoff Livsey, in his home court debut, added a team-high 15 points.

With the win, the Lynx raise their record to 2 wins and 1 loss.  They will take a couple days off for Thanksgiving and be back in action on Friday evening (7:00pm) as they host Principia College (0-2) in the Crowne Plaza Downtown Thanksgiving Classic.
