The Rhodes College women's tennis team traveled to Sewanee, Tenn. this past weekend for the International Tennis Association's South Championships.
Leading the Lynx was freshman
Dasha Safarian who made it all the way to the quarterfinals in the Singles division of the main draw. Safarian first defeated Mackenzie Snow of Centre 6-0, 6-3 followed by a 6-0, 6-1 win over Florencia Sorrentino of NC Wesleyan. Next up on Safarian's list was No. 8-ranked Ashley Ford of Millsaps. Safarian suffered a 5-7 loss in the first set, before rebounding back for the win 6-3, 6-3. She then fell to No. 1-ranked Bridget Harding of Emory 0-6, 1-6. Harding made it all the way to the finals before falling to her teammate, No. 2-ranked Isabel Gonzalez-Rico.
"It was exciting to see Dasha make it to the quarterfinals of the ITA as a freshman, especially her win in the second round against the #8 seed of the tournament from Millsaps," commented head coach
Jenn Tinnell. "This weekend's play was a good indicator for matchups in the SAA and the team is excited for spring tennis to begin".

Tricia Sculco, Safarian, and
Kayle Thorson all competed in singles competition. Doubles partners included Mullen/Sculco, Thorson/Merriman and Safarian/Doherty.
In singles, Sculco defeated Megan McKay of Piedmont in the opening round before falling to Ella Shields of Millsaps.Â
Kayle Thorson defeated Val Zhurakovskara of Piedmont before falling to Karina Rivera while Carolin Doherty also won during the first round of competition.
Safarian and Doherty were the only doubles team for the Lynx to advance past the first round of the main draw.
The Lynx are finished with their fall season and will open spring play at Tennessee State University on February 2, 2018.
