Field Hockey Honors Seniors with 13 Goal Drubbing of Hendrix

MEMPHIS - The Rhodes College field hockey team honored seven seniors before their contest with Hendrix and then went out and put on a shot, rolling over the Warriors with a convincing 13-0 win in the season finale.

Rhodes finished the regular season at 13-2 and will prepare to host the SAA Tournament next weekend in Memphis as the No. 1 seed.

The Lynx out shot the Warriors 36-5 including a 28-5 advantage in shots on goal. They also finished with 16 penalty corners on the day to Hendrix's four.

Rhodes scored four goals in the first 20 minutes as sophomore Lizzie Wood, senior Mackenzie Busby, senior Grace Whelan, and sophomore Jillian Christensen all scored. The Lynx extended that lead to 6-0 at half with goals from freshman Lydia Slyter and senior Christina DiFelice.

In the second half, Rhodes continued to pour it on as Wood, DiFelice, and senior Kennedy Brislin pushed the lead to 9-0 with goals in the first 12 minutes. Rhodes closed the game with junior Maddie Smith, freshman Hailey Mules, Whelan, and freshman Cami Sullivan to wrap up the blowout win.

The Lynx honored seven seniors in DiFelice, Busby, Brislin, Best, Whelan, Julia Schiciano, and Meghan Fogarty.

Wood, DiFelice, and Whelan all finished with two goals while DiFelice added two assists. The Lynx were terrific defensively again thanks to the likes of Brislin, Fogarty, and freshman Daryl Perry. Junior Laura Eckelkamp finished with four saves and earned her seventh shutout of the season.

Rhodes prepares for the SAA Championship and will play Saturday at 11 AM against the winner of the No. 3/No. 6 seed matchup. The winner of the game will play in the championship match on Sunday at Mason Field.
