HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Rhodes women's tennis team kicked off their Spring Break trip in Hilton Head against Carroll University.
 
Playing with only four women the team had to start down 0-3 defaulting No. 3 doubles, No. 5 singles, and No. 6 singles. At the No. 2 doubles position Morgan Wilkins and Elyse Smith played their best tennis on the big points and got out to an early 6-1 lead. At the No. 1 doubles position Amelia McIsaac and Anna Volkov were in a battle and found themselves down a break 3-4. Using the momentum from Wilkins and Smith, McIsaac and Volkov were able to fight back and won five out of the next six games and won their match 8-5. On the No. 2 doubles court Morgan and Elyse were able to continue winning the big points and came away with an 8-3 win.
 
Going into singles still down 2-3 there was not a lot of room for error. McIsaac was having a tough match at the No. 1 singles position and after some unlucky breaks was down a break 4-2 and lost the first set 6-2. In the second set McIsaac was able to fight back into the match and got up a break 3-2, but lost her second set 6-3. On the No. 2 singles court Volkov cruised to a 6-0 lead by attacking the net and keeping her opponent moving side to side. As her opponent fought hard to get back into the match Volkov was able to keep playing her game and won 6-3 in the second set. Starting the last round of singles match Rhodes was still down 4-3 and needed to win both singles matches to come away with their second win of the season.
 
With looming darkness Wilkins and Smith took the court for their singles matches to play an eight-game pro set. In a race to eight games Morgan and Elyse left no doubt getting up 6-2 and 6-1, respectively. They were both able to close out their matches and solidify Rhodes' second win of the season with Wilkins winning 8-2 and Smith winning 8-2.
 
The Lynx are back in action again on Tuesday with a doubles header against Slippery Rock and Juniata.
