DEMOREST, Ga. – The Rhodes women's tennis team defeated Piedmont College on Friday, 7-2.
At the No. 1 doubles position the team of
Amelia McIsaac and
Anna Volkov used their aggressive net play to get off to a quick 5-0 lead. Playing No. 2 doubles
Morgan Wilkins and
Elyse Smith cruised to a 4-1 lead with big returns and their own aggressive net play. The Lynx continued their dominant doubles play and won both courts 8-3 and 8-2 respectively.
Going into singles the match was tied at 2-2 and the first team to win three courts would take home the win.
Morgan Wilkins recorded the first win for the Lynx with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles. She was followed by
Anna Volkov winning 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 2 singles position to put the Lynx up 4-2. Needing only one more match for the win senior
Amelia McIsaac was able to clinch the victory at the No. 1 singles position with a 6-2, 6-4 win.
Elyse Smith and
Macon Wilson finished out the match with two additional wins at the No. 4 and No. 5 singles position.
The Lynx begin conference play next weekend, March 28 when they travel to Centre College and Sewanee.
