Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Rhodes field hockey rolled over Sewanee, 3-1

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Rhodes field hockey used scores from three separate Lynx to help lift them over conference rivals Sewanee, 3-1 on Saturday.

The win takes the Lynx to 3-5 on the season and 3-1 in Southern Athletic Association action while Sewanee falls to 3-3 and 1-2 in league play.

Rhodes saw the Tigers score an early goal within two minutes of play by Carrie Anderson, but would not relinquish another goal in the contest. Kate Taylor found the back of the cage unassisted at the 16 minute mark knotting things up at 1-1. Christina DiFelice grabbed the game winner in the 24th minute when she converted a Mary Rose Hazel pass. The Lynx would take the 2-1 lead into the half.

To start the second period, Rhodes scored within five minutes when Erin Best netted her first goal in her collegiate career to make the final score 3-1.

"It was great to see Erin Best score her first collegiate goal," said head coach Jane Wells. "She's been working hard in practice day in and day out and it paid off in a beautiful goal in the second half."

The Lynx led in more categories than just the scoreboard as they outshot Sewanee by a tally of 33-21. The lynx also had more corner opportunities taking 17 to the Tigers 9.

Erin Bailey saw all 70 minutes as the Lynx net minder, racking up nine total saves.

"We made some good adjustments at the half and were able to control possession for the last 35 minutes," said Wells. "It was a total team effort. Jordan Kugler, Shauni Cowan and Mary Rose Hazel all had great games."

Rhodes will continue its road trip as they face DePauw University in a neutral site match in Louisville, Ky. on Sunday Sept. 29 at 1 p.m.
