CONWAY, Ark. – Rhodes kicked off its season with a pair of emphatic victories over Hendrix College Saturday in Conway.
The Women outscored Hendrix 80-21, while the men posted a score of 69-18 in defeating the Warriors. The Lynx stormed out of the gates with impressive showings in the 200 Medley Relays before
Megan May took first in the women's 1000 Freestyle in a lifetime best of 11:42.02, and was matched by
Bakari Williams' lifetime best performance of 11:15.04 in winning the men's 1000.
Sophomore
Allie Zeidan fought through lingering illness to touch first in the 200 Freestyle in a time of 2:03.31. She was followed closely by freshman
Anna Singletary, touching in 2:04.96. Not to be outdone, freshman roommates
Spencer Regelson and
Forrest Lloyd touched 1-2 in the men's 200 Freestyle in times of 1:53.71 and 1:56.26.
The women's 50 Freestyle proved to be the tightest race of the day, with senior
Kelsey Wilson out touching Hendrix sophomore Caroline Forbes by .02 to win the race in a time of 25.42. The sprint freestyle events look to be the deepest for the lady Lynx, as
Kathryn Campbell was able to touch 3rd in a time of 26.12, and freshman
Madison Sears was able to drop nearly a full second from her lifetime best, touching in 26.32. Senior Matt Washnock touched first for the men in a time of 23.05. Sophomore
Obaid Anwar touched second in a time of 24.91, as he looks to be big contributor for the Lynx in multiple events this season.
The Lynx posted a pair of victories in the women's and men's 200 IM, with
Sarah Young touching in 2:23.46 and
Campbell Delahoyde posting a time of 2:15.15.
Shannon Speer touched second for the women with an impressive 2:24.45.
The diving squad then got their opportunity to shine as
Mary Portera led the 1-2-3 charge of herself,
Sara Ewel, and Laura Oxford. Mary posted a score of 208.50, followed by Sara's 118.05 in her debut on the boards, and Laura's 97.20 in her debut on the boards for the Lynx.
Sophomores
Ann Griffin and
Shannon Speer got things going again in the racing pool with a 1-2 finish in the 100 Fly. Griffin touched in 1:03.63 and Speer was able to post a time of 1:03.93.
Washnock and Regelson continued the Lynx momentum into the men's 100 Freestyle with Washnock touching in 50.46 and Regelson finishing in 52.40. The senior-freshman tandem looks to make Rhodes very dangerous in the sprint and mid freestyle events this season.
Kelsey Wilson continued her great day with a winning time of 5:22.08 in the 500 Freestyle. Senior
Alex Rejaee wrapped up the individual events for the day with a victory in the 100 Breast in a time of 1:05.49.
Rhodes swept the men's and women's 400 Free Relays to close the meet. The team of
Alexa Bosley,
Melanie Eichhorn,
Megan May, and
Kathryn Campbell touched first, while the men's team of
Spencer Regelson,
Forrest Lloyd,
Bakari Williams, and
Matthew Washnock pulled out a tight victory in a time of 3:28.61.
The Lynx return to action Friday night in Danville, Ky. against conference power Centre College.
