The Rhodes women faced Centre College as the second match of their Senior Day.
Rhodes had to play a tough Centre team without their #1,
Maggie Donoghue, due to her injury against Birmingham Southern. Even without Maggie the Lynx were able to win at #2 and #3 doubles. Freshman combo of
Courtney Hornsby and
Elyse Smith pulled out a tiebreaker to take the doubles match at #2.
Going into singles Rhodes was up 2-1. The lady Lynx got strong singles victories from senior
Alex Phipps and freshman
Courtney Hornsby. These wins gave Rhodes 4 points with only one match left to be played, it was a winner take all situation.
Freshman
Krystal Skrmetta started slowly. She lost the first set 6-2 but this didn't stop her from fighting. She stormed back to win the second set 6-1 with strong play from the backcourt. The entire match came down to the third set and Krystal found herself in a tiebreaker. She went down 6-3 and faced 3 consecutive match points before taking the clinching match. She won five straight points by not missing a single shot and took the tiebreaker 8-6.
The coaches and entire team rushed the court in celebration of the huge win! Way to go Rhodes!
