With 6.1 seconds remaining, Junior
Andrew Galow took the inbound pass 94 feet and banked in a floating jumper to give the Lynx a 71 to 69 victory on Sunday, January 22nd against the Colorado College Tigers. Rhodes stormed back from an eight point second half deficit to grab a six point lead with 3:31 to play. Colorado would not back down as Sophomore guard Ryan Milne dropped in a floater from 8 feet to tied the game with only 6.1 seconds left.
Andrew Galow did the rest and led the Lynx to victory. Galow finished the night with a game-high 26 points, on 11 of 15 shooting, and game-highs in rebounding with 7 and assists with 7.
The Lynx came out strong in the first half, but were unable to separate from the Tigers of Colorado. An explosive one handed dunk by Sophomore
Shane Watson ignited the crowd, as they would be treated to a thriller the rest of the afternoon. Colorado was paced by Milne who scored 10 points by the break, finishing with 12 for the game. Rhodes headed into the locker room with a 31 to 25 lead.
A slow second half start, saw the Tigers grab the lead and stretch it to eight points with 11:48 remaining. Colorado's Jeremiah Waters and Chris Lesnansky combined for 26 second half points, as they sparked the Tigers. However, the Lynx were not to back down as a three-point basket by Freshman Geoff Livsey tied the game with 7:42 on the clock, and a following basket plus the foul by Galow saw the Lynx grab hold of a three point lead that they would hold on to until the end.
With the game close, 65 to 64, Senior
Kory Kilpatrick back his way down inside and finished a three-point play for the Lynx, giving them a four point advantage with 59 second left. Kilpatrick was the only other Lynx player in double figures with 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. Colorado's Waters hit a three from long-range to follow, as each team kept trading blows. With 28 seconds remaining and the Lynx up two points, Rhodes defense blocked Colorado's shot out of bounds giving the Tigers only 9.8 seconds to score. Milne wished it was less time as his jumper with 6.1 on the clock tied the game, but gave Galow and the Lynx too much time, as the Lynx won 71 to 69.
The win gives Rhodes the sweep this weekend against East foes Hendrix and Colorado, pushing their record to 12-6 overall and 7-2 in the SCAC. Rhodes hits the road next weekend, as they head to San Antonio, Texas to play Trinity University (Friday, January 27th) and Southwestern University (Saturday, January 28th).
