The Rhodes Track & Field team competed in the SAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Centre College this weekend. With a limited travel roster making the trip, Rhodes relied on a smaller crew to carry the load, and they responded with notable performances, personal bests, and key point-scoring efforts across the two-day championship!
Sprints & Hurdles
Freshman David Kienast posted a personal best in the 60m (7.35) and added a solid 23.92 in the 200m prelims, highlighting a promising championship career.
Senior Bryce Tuchner led the way on the track, qualifying for the final in the 60m hurdles with a personal best 8.77 in prelims before placing 6th overall in 8.87 to score team points. Tuchner also contributed to the 4x400 relay squad that placed 6th (3:36.64), adding more points for Rhodes.
Field Events
Senior Liam Conroy secured a 5th-place finish in the pole vault, clearing 3.25m. He also added a strong 11th-place mark in the weight throw (13.95m).
In the horizontal jumps, Sumay Frueh finished 10th in the triple jump (12.07m), while Mark Hanson recorded a personal best 5.88m in the long jump.
Distance Highlights
While just outside scoring positions, several distance runners delivered notable performances. Diego Donald led the 3,000m squad with a 9th-place finish (8:57.38), and freshman Anderson Frank posted a personal best 9:01.88 in the same event. In the mile, freshman Jack Herman achieved a personal best (4:54.49), continuing his progression this season.
Relays
Rhodes earned key points in both relays:
4x400 Relay (Sumay Frueh, Collin Dillingham, Bryce Tuchner and Nathan Copeland) – 6th place, 3:36.64
Distance Medley Relay (Mercer Murphy, Sumay Frueh, Collin Dillingham, Jack Sullivan) – 6th place, 11:03.91
Both relays delivered clutch scoring efforts to bolster the team total.
Despite traveling with a limited roster, Rhodes made the most of every opportunity, turning in personal bests, scoring in key events, and competing with resilience across the board. From senior leadership in scoring positions to impactful performances from underclassmen, the Lynx demonstrated depth, determination, and continued growth. Rhodes will now shift its focus to the outdoor season, opening competition next weekend at the Mississippi College Season Opener as the team looks to build on its championship momentum.
