Men's Outdoor Track and Field Completes Day One of SAA Championships

The Rhodes Men's Track & Field team opened Day 1 of the conference championships with a strong showing in the preliminary rounds and scored events, highlighted by key qualifiers, valuable team points, and momentum-building performances across multiple event groups as the Lynx began their postseason campaign.

Sprints & Hurdles

Rhodes opened the meet with solid efforts in the sprint preliminaries. In the 100 meters, freshman Aaron Champion led the way with an 11.24, while sophomore Clayton Wentworth followed closely in 11.29. Wentworth also returned in the 200-meter prelims, clocking 23.16.

In the 400-meter preliminaries, Sumay Frueh paced the Lynx with a 51.47, while Mark Hanson added a 52.91 performance.

Senior Bryce Tuchner once again highlighted the hurdles group, advancing through a strong day of competition with a fourth-place time of 58.74 in the 400-meter hurdles prelims. He also added a sixth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles preliminaries in 15.90, continuing to provide a strong presence for Rhodes heading into finals competition.

Distance Highlights

The distance squad was led by junior Diego Donald, who scored in the 10,000 meters with a sixth-place finish in 32:40.71. Senior Owen Foster also competed well in the event, crossing in 34:42.57.

Rhodes entered a strong group in the 5,000 meters with Donald, freshman Anderson Frank, sophomore Jack Hinds, junior Max Barcan, and junior Daze Evans representing the Lynx.

In the 1,500 meters, freshman Jack Herman, sophomore Wright McManus, and senior Jack Sullivan competed for Rhodes, while McManus also doubled back in the 800-meter preliminaries alongside freshmen Collin Dillingham and Mercer Murphy.

The steeplechase group saw Daze Evans compete, while Ian McCormack was unable to start.

Field Events

Rhodes found major success in the field events, led by senior Liam Conroy, who captured the conference title in the javelin with a first-place throw of 56.51m. Conroy also added points in the pole vault with a fifth-place finish at 4.07m and placed fourth in the hammer throw with a mark of 44.81m, making him one of the top overall performers of the meet for the Lynx.

In the javelin, Devin Caddle added a 42.39m effort, while freshman Jordan Alexander threw 40.62m.

The horizontal jumps were led by Sumay Frueh, who placed ninth in the long jump with a leap of 6.33m. Mark Hanson added a mark of 5.71m, while Nathan Copeland competed as well. Rhodes also entered Frueh and Copeland in the triple jump.

Freshman William Crimm continued his development in the throws, competing in the discus, hammer, and shot put, where he recorded a mark of 9.57m.

Looking Ahead

With a strong opening day complete, Rhodes now shifts its focus to the finals, where the Lynx will look to build on their early success and turn strong performances into valuable team points.
