The Rhodes College Lynx baseball team is headed back to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament for the first time since 2018 after securing an automatic bid by winning the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Conference Tournament Championship.
The Lynx will travel to St. Louis this weekend to compete in the NCAA Regional hosted by Webster University. Their opening game is set for Friday against Belhaven University, a familiar opponent whom Rhodes has faced twice this season. The Lynx claimed a 7–4 victory in Jackson, Mississippi earlier this year, but Belhaven responded with a 17–6 win in Memphis in the return matchup.
The regional is a double-elimination format featuring four teams: Rhodes, Belhaven, host Webster University, and the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE). The winner of the Rhodes vs. Belhaven matchup will face the winner of Webster vs. MSOE in the winner's bracket, while the losers of both games will square off in an elimination game.
Rhodes last appeared in the NCAA Tournament in 2018, making a memorable postseason run. That campaign ended with a hard-fought loss to UT Tyler in the NCAA Division III Central Regional Championship. UT Tyler went on to win the national title that year before transitioning to NCAA Division II competition.
This year's Lynx team looks to build on that legacy and make another deep postseason run.
