Box Score MEMPHIS, Tenn. (February 19, 2022) - It wasn't the smoothest day at the ballyard, but in the end Rhodes found themselves with two more Ws in the wins column after defeating Webster 8-6 and UDallasĀ 13-8. The Lynx now sit at 6-0 on the season.
Game One
Rhodes 8, Webster 6
Webster had the early advantage in this one, chasing Rhodes starter
Beth Fleming before the first inning was even over. They scored three times in the first two innings, and looked poised for the upset bid. The Lyn offense had other plans however, tying things up in the third with an Ariel Schacter RBI single, a
Hannah Schweiger RBI fielder's choice, and a run-scoring base hit from
Madison Granberry. The Lynx picked up two more in the fifth courtesy of Schweiger's double to the left-center gap. Rhodes then added three insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth with RBI coming from
Madison Stringfield, Schacter, and
Katelyn Siekerka. Webster made things interesting with three runs in the seventh, but Fleming, who had re-entered, was able to strand a runner at second and end the game in favorof the Lynx, 8-6.
Madison Keller was phenomenal in relief, entering the game with the bases loaded in the first and not allowing a run. She would go on to toss six innings on the day, allowing four earned runs on six hits with one strikeout. Her ability to come in to a tough spot on short notice was particularly impressive. Siekerka finished game one 3-4 with a run and an RBI. Schweiger drove in three to help the offense.Ā
Game Two
Rhodes 13, UDallas 8
The Lynx wasted no time in this one, batting through the order in the first and scoring four runs. They were especially aggressive on the basepaths, totaling six swipes in the first. They were also aided by two Crusader errors.Ā
Rhodes would go on to score at least one run in all six innings that they batted. They would end up needing most of them. Dallas hung around until the end, when they exploded for five runs in the top of the sixth, pulling to within one at 9-8. Fleming entered the game, replacing Stringfield on the mound, and struck out Sarah Hey swinging, leaving the tying run on second. Rhodes then got a chunk of the runs back in the bottom half, scoring four times highlighted by a two-run single from
Leslie Matherne and an RBI fielder's choice from Fleming. Fleming then shut down the Crusaders down in the seventh to secure the 13-8 win.Ā
Siekerka was 5-5 in game two, with a double, two runs scored, three RBI and four steals. As a team, Rhodes swiped 11 bags in the game. Matherne and
Hannah Grace Roden had multiple hits as well to aid the Lynx attack.Ā
The three teams will play each other once more on Sunday. Webster and Dallas face off at 10:30 am, folowed by Rhodes vs. Dalls at noon and Rhodes vs. Webster at 2:00 pm.Ā
