Softball Advances with Walk-Off Win Over No. 3 Southwestern

Game Recap: No. 2 Rhodes vs. No. 3 Southwestern University

In a dramatic postseason pitchers' duel, the Rhodes College softball team walked off No. 3 Southwestern with a 1–0 victory on May 7, 2026, in Columbus, Georgia. The Lynx relied on dominant pitching from Taylor Petty and a clutch seventh-inning hit from Jasmyn Stanley to secure the hard-fought win and advance in postseason play.

Both teams battled through six scoreless innings as the game developed into a defensive showcase. Rhodes consistently threatened offensively with seven hits on the afternoon, while Petty kept Southwestern off balance from start to finish inside the circle.

Key Performances

Taylor Petty delivered one of her strongest performances of the season, tossing a complete-game one-hit shutout while striking out a season-high eight batters across seven innings. She allowed just three walks and never surrendered a serious scoring threat, controlling the game with efficient pitching throughout.

Jasmyn Stanley provided the game-winning moment for the Lynx in the bottom of the seventh inning, ripping a double to left center that scored Madison Wehrman for the lone run of the contest.

Isabela Barber paced Rhodes offensively with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate, while Kate Ledlie also collected two hits and reached base three times. Harper Allee-Press and Kaitlyn Sun each added hits as Rhodes continued to apply pressure offensively throughout the afternoon. Allee-Press is now the programs all time hit leader with 202.

Game Highlights

The matchup remained scoreless through six innings as both pitchers traded shutdown frames. Southwestern managed just one hit all game against Petty, while Rhodes repeatedly put runners aboard but was unable to break through early.

In the bottom of the seventh, Peyton Rohrig reached base before Madison Wehrman entered as a pinch runner. Wehrman quickly moved into scoring position with a stolen base, setting the stage for Stanley's walk-off RBI double to left center that sealed the 1–0 victory for Rhodes.

Defensively, the Lynx were flawless in the field, committing no errors and backing Petty with steady play throughout the game.
