Lynx Split Day One in Conway

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Conway, Ark. - Rhodes College came from behind in game one at Hendrix College Friday afternoon, but the Warriors prevailed with a 9-8 victory in 10 innings.

In the night cap, Rhodes led 5-4 before the Warriors took a 6-5 lead. The Lynx then tallied five runs in the sixth inning on their way to a 10-7 victory where Andy Shreves picked up the win.

Game 1
Rhodes scored first as Will Heurtin doubled in Paul Giacomazzi to lead off the series against the Warriors. Hendrix then scored two runs on two hits, two walks and a hit by pitch in the bottom of the second before they stranded three runners. The Warriors took a 4-1 lead with an unearned run in the fourth before the Lynx crossed two of their own in the fifth after two Hendrix errors and a Sam Roffwarg double. Hendrix led 4-3 before three singles helped the Warriors score two more in the bottom of the fifth. 

The Lynx again pulled within one after three hits, including a leadoff double by Heurtin and a triple by Peter York helped the Lynx score two runs. With two outs and two runners on in the top of the ninth, a Dante Messina single scored York for the tying run. Hendrix tried to walk it off, but stranded two as the John Fears struck out the final Warrior to send the game into the 10th inning. 

A Giacomazzi triple scored Mitchell O'Berry who pinch hit a single to lead off the 10th. Giacomazzi then scored on a wild pitch to give Rhodes an 8-6 lead. Two doubles and a single in the bottom of the inning pulled Hendrix within one before a double with two outs allowed the Warriors to walk it off in the 10th with the 9-8 victory.

Game 2
Rhodes scored in five innings to defeat Hendrix 10-7 and split the day. An error helped extend the first inning where Rhodes took a 2-0 lead. Bryce Anderson hit a ground-rule double to lead off the second and scored on an O'Berry single up the middle. Hendrix cut Rhodes' three-run lead with two runs in the second off a triple and two Lynx errors. Each team crossed a run the third before Rhodes took a 5-3 advantage in the top of the fourth. Hendrix led 7-5 after scoring three runs in the bottom of the third and one in the bottom of the fifth.

In the sixth, Ben Wilson singled and then scored with Giazomazzi hit his second triple of the day. A sac fly from Chris Penna tied the game before Wood Kimbrough hit the game-winning RBI on a single to left. The Lynx, who had the bases loaded with two outs, scored their final two runs on a hit by pitch and a walk. Still leading 10-7, Rhodes' Andy Shreves struck out the Warriors in order in the seventh. He picked up the win with five strikeouts in 2.2 innings of work, allowed zero hits. 

Giacomazzi and Kimbrough both tallied three hits while York earned three walks.  

Rhodes and Hendrix will begin Saturday's doubleheader at noon.
