Birmingham, Ala. - The Rhodes College swimming and diving programs are off to a fantastic start of the 2019 Southern Athletic Association Championships!
Rhodes took second in the only swimming event of the night, the 800 freestyle relays, where both of Rhodes' A teams broke program records.
Elizabeth McAninch placed fifth out of 11 divers in the women's one-meter diving competition. She totaled a score of 330.55.
The women's team of
Madi Griffin,
Lilli Metts,
Carly Good and
Mary Beth Baker, swam 12 seconds faster (7:39.07) than the 2015 record (7:50.22). The Lynx swam an NCAA B-Cut as the team finished second behind Birmingham-Southern's new SAA record swim. Rhodes B team won the consolation round, swimming just one second slower than the previous record. Junior
Madi Griffin broke her own 200 free record in the leadoff leg (1:51.99) of the 800 free relay, swimming an NCAA B-Cut. She set her previous mark of 1:52.20 at last year's conference championship.
In the 800 free relay on the men's side,
Harrison Rozman,
Evan Ziolkowski,
Roland Chang and
Hayden Hill swam to a new record (6:52.84), roughly nine seconds faster than the 2016 record and 0.40 seconds behind the Berry Vikings for an exciting finish.
