Bartlett, Tenn. - Rhodes College men's swimming honored outgoing seniors
Simon Boles,
Mitchell Koenig,
Aaron Romanowski and
Bakari Williams Saturday prior to their dual meet against Sewanee. The Lynx did suffer defeat in the dual, falling to the Tigers 103-101, but not before they an exhilarating final lap of the meet.
The winner was to be determined on the final race of the day in the 1650 yard freestyle. If Rhodes had placed second, third and fourth, the Lynx would have won. But if they placed second, third and fifth, the two teams would tie. Sewanee swam in first and second the entire race with Rhodes'
Jon Pulaski about a half of a body length behind in third place. When it was realized that the Lynx couldn't take first or even tie the Tigers, Pulaski's teammates still cheered him on to try and put pressure on Hayden Everett sitting in second. As he made his final turn, the Lynx got even louder on the edge of the pool to Pulaski's right, running up the side of the pool with him. Their cheering worked as Pulaski's final reach gave him a .06 second edge over Everett for second place.
In the meet,
Harrison Rozman finished first in the 100 and 200 yard freestyles while freshman
Hayden Hill bested all swimmers in the 200 fly and dominated the 500 freestyle by finishing over 11 seconds before his next competitor. Rhodes finished one-two-three in the 500 freestyle and took second-sixth in the 200 IM.
The Lynx will next travel to Hendrix for a dual on Feb. 3rd.
