MEMPHIS - In a recent ceremony, Canadian standout Jamie Jang (Ontario, Canada) made her intentions known; she will continue her academic and athletic careers next fall at Rhodes College.
Academically, Jang currently ranked in the top 10% of her graduating class at Abbey Park High School (Ontario, Canada), and was inducted into her school's Honor Society as a ninth grader. A model of consistency in the classroom, Jang maintained her Honor Society status throughout her prep career while taking University-level coursework.
Athletically, Jamie will bring something to Rhodes not normally associated with incoming college freshman - experience. As a member of the highly competitive Toronto Thunder Fastpitch organization, she regularly made trips to the states each fall to compete against various collegiate programs. Â
"We are so excited Jang decided to attend Rhodes College this fall; she was incredible impressive throughout the recruiting process," Head Coach
Luke Wagner commented. "Being at the Division III level, it is difficult to secure games against larger programs (Division I or Division II). However, Jang, because of her affiliation with the Toronto Thunder, has been competing against NCAA D1, D2 and D3 teams for years.  As an incoming freshman, she'll be able to draw upon previous college-level competition and hopefully transition smoothly to a full-time college athlete."
A highly decorated athlete, Jang was a call-up for the 2016 Canadian National Championship series, earned a gold medal during 2015 Canadian World Series, and was selected Tournament MVP on multiple occasions throughout her travel ball career. Â
At Rhodes, Jang joins a much improved pitching staff under the watchful eye of second year pitching coach Ms.
Quincy Lewis.
Jamie Jang is the daughter of Mrs. Erica Park, and Mr. Yoon Jang, and plans to pursue a degree in Political Science before eventually attending Law school.
