MEMPHIS - The Rhodes College women's tennis team showed great fight and grit, but eventually fell short to Birmingham-Southern on Sunday morning at Dunavant Tennis Center by the score of 8-1.
The Lynx dropped all three doubles points despite a terrific effort at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. The team of senior
Anna Volkov and sophomore
Caroline Doherty dropped a close 9-7 game at No. 1 while sophomore
Sara Lynn Abbott and freshman
Natalie Arnold dropped a 9-7 matchup at No. 2.
Arnold conitnues to be a dominant force in singles action, moving to 12-3 in singles action with a 7-6 (2), 6-2 win at No. 3 singles. Volkov put together a strong match at No. 2 singles, but fell in three sets, 5-7, 6-4, 7-10.
Rhodes could not rebound from their close losses as they would eventually drop the match.
The Lynx move to 8-7 overall and 0-3 in the SAA. They reutn home next weekend as they welcome in the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels for a 12 PM start time.
