ORLANDO, Fla. - The Rhodes College men's tennis team opened up their spring break trip on Tuesday afternoon with a 9-0 win over Clark before falling to Coe in the nightcap, 7-2.
In the first matchup, the Lynx had no trouble with Clark as they got things started by sweeping through doubles competition. Seniors
Albert Vacheron and
Daniel Olivier as well as freshmen
P.J. Shaw and
Phil Lauture won at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles by the score of 8-1.
Junior
Wesley Tolsdorf and freshman
Ritwik Chatterjee completed the doubles sweep with an 8-3 win.
In singles, Rhodes swept through the competition beginning with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles by Olivier. Lauture won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 singles while Chatterjee was victorious 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.
Vacheron won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 singles while freshman
Andrew Morton won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. Tolsdorf completed the sweep with a 3-6, 6-2, 10-5 win at No. 6 singles.
Later that night, Rhodes found themselves in a 3-0 deficit despite a terrific effort from No. 1 doubles Vacheron and Olivier, falling 9-8 (4). The Lynx fought in the singles competition, getting wins from Chatterjee at No. 3 singles 6-3, 6-0, and Morton at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 7-5, but could not push any further, eventually falling.
The Lynx are now 9-2 on the season and return to action tomorrow as they take on Wheaton at 10:30 AM ET followed by a matchup against Northwestern (MN) at 7:30 PM ET.
