SEWANEE, Tenn. - For the second straight day, the Rhodes College field hockey team scored three goals in the second half, but this time erased a 1-0 halftime deficit to defeat the St. Mary's Seahawks in a neutral site contest, 3-1.
Rhodes now moves to an impressive 7-1 overall as they continue to roll with their overall great team play.
The Lynx out shot the Seahawks 25-12 including a slight 14-9 advantage in shots on target. The Lynx also had a 13-6 advantage in penalty corner on the afternoon.
Similar to Sewanee in yesterday's contest, St. Mary's came out and gave Rhodes trouble, but the Lynx would find their footing and get looks in their attack, out shooting St. Mary's 9-6 in the half.
However, the Seahawks were the ones to get on the board first as Alli Szymanski scored with just under three minutes to play for the 1-0 lead going into the break.
But the other similarity to yesterday's game against the Tigers was that Rhodes came out firing in the second half. The Lynx tied the match three minutes into the second half as senior
Mackenzie Busby scored on an assist from sophomore
Maddie Smith.
Rhodes would take the lead for the first time in the match 10 minutes later as senior
Christina DiFelice added to her, now goal and points career record, with a goal to put the Lynx ahead for good.
But Rhodes was not done yet, Smith added a goal with five minutes to play on an assist from Busby to put the match away and give Rhodes their second win of the weekend.
The forwards were terrific again led by DiFelice, sophomore
Lizzie Wood, and junior
Lauren Travis. Rhodes also got great play from their midfielders in Smith, Busby, and sophomore
Jillian Christensen. Junior
Laura Eckelkamp and the defense was also terrific led by senior
Kennedy Brislin and junior
Morgan Woodrow. Eckelkamp finished with eight saves in the game.
Rhodes will finish up their three game weekend at home as they welcome in Concordia (Wis.) to Mason Field for a 12 PM contest.Â
