ATLANTA, Ga. - Down 4-0 to Oglethorpe, the Rhodes College women's tennis team put together a ferocious rally to climb back into the match and tie it at four a piece. However, the Stormy Petrels got the final point and defeated the Lynx, 5-4, in a heartbreaking loss.
The Lynx were down to only five players on Saturday and immediately found themselves down 2-0 with default losses at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles. The No. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams would fall 8-4 each for a 4-0 deficit.
Rhodes began to turn it around as freshman
Sara Lynn Abbott picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles followed by a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles from junior
Morgan Wilkins.
Senior
Annie Thomas picked up a huge 1-6, 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles while freshman
Caroline Doherty followed that with a 6-3, 5-7, 7-5 win at No. 1 singles to tie the match up.
It came down to No. 2 singles, and despite an outstanding performance from junior
Anna Volkov, including fighting off three match points, she would come up just short, falling 6-7 (3), 7-6 (1), 6-3.
Rhodes moves to 6-10 overall and 1-3 in SAA play. They will return to action at 9 AM tomorrow morning as they take on the Berry College Vikings in SAA play.
