BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - For the ninth consecutive year, the Rhodes College women's track and field team have won a conference title including their fourth straight SAA title, the only team to win the title since the conference formed.
Rhodes finished with 249 total point followed by Birmingham-Southern in second at 195. Centre placed third at 105 followed by Berry with 73 and Hendrix with 45. Oglethorpe, Sewanee, and Millsaps rounded out the rest of the field.
In field events, junior
Kira Curry made it a clean sweep in throws with a win in the discus with a throw of 35.53m. Curry's effort earned SAA Female Athlete of the Meet. Freshman Morgan Hill placed fifth with a throw of 31.35m. Meanwhile, senior Catherine Eckert wrapped up field events with a fourth place finish in the high jump at 1.47m.
The distance runners continued their domination going into conference. Senior
Brittany Alexander got things going with a second place finish in the 5000m with a time of 18:19.58 while sophomores
Ashley Litoff and
Reagan Alley placed fifth and sixth.
Alexander then turned around and won the 1500m with a time of 4:44.39 with sophomore
Abby Watkins, Alley, and Litoff placing third, fourth, and fifth. Alley, Alexander, and junior
Kendall Reed placed 1, 2, 3 in the 800m with Alley leading the pace with a 2:20.50.
In sprints, sophomore
Alice Fugate placed second in the 100m with a time of 12.51 and followed that up with a third place finish in the 200m with a time of 25.64. Reed and freshman
Rosie Lobelson placed fourth and fifth in the 400m while sophomore
Laurel Sharp won the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:06.84.
The Lynx 4x100 and 4x400 teams each placed second in their respective relay races.
On the men's side, the Lynx placed third in the event with 129 points. BSC won it all with 226 points followed by Centre at 138.50. Hendrix placed fourth at 100.50 while Berry was in fifth with 80. Sewanee, Oglethorpe, and Millsaps rounds out the rest of the field.
In field events, sophomore
Renn Eason picked up a pair of wins in the high jump and triple jump, winning the high jump at 1.98m and the triple jump at 14.08m as he was named SAA Male Athlete of the Meet.
Distance put together a nice day for the Lynx with senior
Matt Dsida winning the 1500m with a time of 4:00.77. Teammate
Connor Fagan placed seventh in the event. Meanwhile, freshmen
Spencer Fields and
Reece Stevens placed fourth and fifth in the 5000m.
In the 400m, freshman
Will Raines earned a fourth place finish while the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams each placed third in their respective events.
The Lynx will take some time off and prepare for a last chance meet on May 19th at the Gregory Invitational in North Central, just one week before the National Championships in Waverly, Iowa.
