MEMPHIS - The Rhodes College men's tennis team dropped a pair of matches on Friday and Saturday, falling to Division II Delta State 6-1 on Friday evening before returning on Saturday morning and losing to Division I Tennessee State 6-3.

In a tough matchup on Friday, the big win of the night came at No. 3 doubles in what turned out to be an epic match. With Rhodes already down 2-0 in doubles, the team of freshmen Sairam Guiseva and Sean Hogan were deadlocked 7-7. The duo went on to break serve to move ahead and win the match, sending the team and crowd into a frenzy with a 9-7 win.

However, the Statesmen proved to be too tough, winning four singles matches as the two teams played to decision, with Delta State winning 6-1.

Against Tennessee State, Rhodes found themselves behind after losing the doubles point, 3-0. The duo of juniors Albert Vacheron and Daniel Olivier gave a great effort at No. 2 doubles, but fell just short at 8-5.

The Lynx needed a rally in singles and got a couple of key wins as Hogan and Gudiseva dominated No. 5 and No. 6 singles to straight set wins. Hogan won his match 6-3, 6-2 while Gudiseva was dominant with a 6-0, 6-0 victory.

At No. 1 singles, senior Eliot Blatt earned a three-set victory over his opponent, 6-7 (1), 7-5, (5); however, it would not be enough as Tennessee State earned the victory at 6-3.

Rhodes moves to 3-2 overall and will prepare to hit the road for their Spring Break trip in Texas. The Lynx will visit Texas-Tyler on Monday afternoon at 3 PM in Tyler, Texas.
