ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Rhodes College men's tennis team steam rolled by the Fontbonne Griffins late on Thursday night before returning to the courts this afternoon and falling to the 12th-ranked Washington (Mo.) Bears, 6-0.
Against Fontbonne, Rhodes gained a 1-0 lead by default in doubles action while junior
Albert Vacheron and freshman
Sairam Gudiseva earned a dominating 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles. Sophomores
Wesley Tolsdorf and
David Glenn earned an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles for a commanding 3-0 lead going into singles.
Glenn would earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles while junior
Weston Breay won at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Freshman
Phillips Hutchison won No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-2 while Tolsdorf won at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-2. The lynx won the final two spots by default for the 9-0 win.
On Saturday, the Lynx took on the nationally-ranked Bears. After dropping the doubles competition, 3-0, Rhodes went into singles competition where the match of the day took place at No. 1 singles.
Senior
Eliot Blatt and John Carswell went head-to-head in a great three-set battle. Carswell would eventually emerge victorious, defeating Blatt, 6-2, 4-6, 13-11. The teams played to decision with the Bears taking it, 6-0.
Rhodes moves to 6-6 on the year and will enjoy the rest of the weekend off for Easter. The Lynx will return home to the Dunavant Tennis Complex as they move back into conference play with a matchup against Centre beginning at 9 AM.
