MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The women's tennis team pulled the upset over Millsaps College on Friday in the opening round of the Southern Athletic Association tournament, 5-4.
The Lynx drew Millsaps, the third seed in the conference tournament last weekend, proving to be the biggest upset in the conference tournament. Rhodes started with a clear disadvantage, only having five girls to start the match, but were able to sweep at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, tying the match at 2-2 before enter singles.
Amelia McIsaac and
Anna Volkov pulled off an amazing win against Deena Li Kam Wa and Ashley Ford while
Morgan Wilkins and
Elyse Smith dominated their doubles match against Madison Brennan and Rachel Beck.
Singles came down to the last match as Millsaps won on courts 1 and 6, the Lynx were able to close out matches on courts 2, 3 and 4.
Anna Volkov and
Morgan Wilkins made quick work of Ashley Ford 6-2, 6-1 and Anna Brahce 6-4, 6-2. The match came down to
Elyse Smith on court 4. After a long game on her serve at 5-2, Smith closed out the match to clinch the win for the Lynx 5-4 in the overall score. Rhodes will face second seed Berry in the semifinals of the conference tournament this Saturday.
