MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Rhodes women's tennis team fell to Birmingham Southern College on Sunday, 5-4.

McIsaac/Volkov producing some magnificent tennis, closing the net and finishing off high volleys and overheads to stay on serve with the BSC pair of Petro/Cohen.  Natalie Vacheron and Prianka Bose were able to start strong, leading 3-0 while Wilkins/Smith struggled, getting down early 5-0.

A few loose errors from McIsaac/Volkov produced a break on Volkov's serve.  McIsaac/Volkov were up numerous times but were unable to secure a break to get them back in the match.  Vacheron/Bose put up a fight but were unable to sustain their lead, letting Hammond/Farrell of BSC back in the match.  Wilkins/Smith were able to bring the match back on serve, clawing themselves out of a deep hole after being down 7-2.  After winning five games in a row, the BSC pair of Scherer/Farrell were able to close out the match on serve.

The Panthers carried the momentum from doubles over into their singles.  After being up 3-0 and winning her match at No. 1 doubles, Carla Petro made quick work of McIsaac 6-0, 6-1.  Anna Volkov fired back and dispatched Sarah Cohen 6-1, 6-3.

Morgan Wilkins fought to win her match against a talented Kataie Scherer.  Schere was able to use Wilkins' pace against her as she redirected the ball off the court.  However, Wilkins adjusted and was able to pull Scherer out of position before hitting the big winner on match point.  Elyse Smith found herself in another battle, winning 7-5, 7-6 (5) in the breaker.  Smith's high and heavy ground strokes, complemented with touch volleys and slices were too much for BSC's Mary Carroll.

The match came down to Prianka Bose at No.6 against Lindsey Farrell.  Bose was out matched in the first set, but found her rhythm and was one game away from forcing a third set.  Farrell was able to compose herself and rallied back to win the second set 7-5.

The Lynx play their last home match against Hendrix next weekend before they head off to the conference championships in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
