HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Lynx traveled to Hilton Head Island to commence their spring break trip, kicking off the trip with a contest against Ithaca.
Eliot Blatt and
Greyson Brilliant were able to strike first and put the Lynx up 1-0 after a hard fought match.
Luis Ardila and
Albert Vacheron fought hard but were unable to withstand the firepower of Chris Haynes and Lorenzo Vigue-Ramos. Finally,
Jack Patton and Wes Tolsdorf were able to mount a huge comeback at 3-6 to win the next five games in a row, putting the Lynx up 8-6 after doubles.
The singles started in dramatic fashion for the Lynx.
Greyson Brilliant was again, leading the way after being down in the first stet 5-2 to win the next five games in a row. He quickly kept his momentum going and put Viguie-Ramos away in the second set 6-2.
Luis Ardila, down 5-2 in the second set, was able to fight off four match points in the final set against Wes Davis. Ardila was able to break Davis' serve and then hold, putting the match at 5-4 and had two break points to even the set, but would eventually succumb at 6-4.
Eliot Blatt was able to put his team up 4-3 after a dramatic match against Jack Melhorn. Blatt won the first set 7-5 while Melhorn fired back to win the second 7-5. Due to lack of time, the pair played a 10 point super tie breaker which Blatt was able to pull out 10-6.
The match came down to
David Glenn and it was a race against the clock. The court lights were set to turn off at 10 p.m. and with the fear of darkness creeping close, the match was paused at 7-5 (40-30) on Glenn's serve. The match was moved to the Beach and Tennis Club where the pair continued the match until those lights turned off at 11 p.m. With the final match tied at 8-8 (1-1) in the tiebreaker, the match was declared a draw.
