MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Rhodes softball team picked up a pair of Southern Athletic Association wins on Tuesday over rivals Hendrix College.
The Lynx improve to 3-15-1 on the year and 2-5-1 in league play while the Warriors fall to 5-10 on the year and 2-6 in conference action.
In the first contest Rhodes rocked Hendrix to the tune of 13-4. The Lynx tacked on five innings in the first and second innings that featured a
Rachel Pewitt two-run homer. The Warriors added three runs in the fourth inning, but the Lynx added two runs of their own in the fourth inning to push ahead 13-3. The Warriors added another single run in the fifth, but the Lynx held on for the 13-4 win.
Rhodes tallied 14 hits, with Makenzie leading the way with, going 3-for-4 at the plate. Rhodes rallied for six stolen bases in the contest.
Forrest Skelton got the start for the Lynx, where she went for four and one-third inning, throwing five Ks.
In the second contest, the Lynx battled the Warriors for the 8-7 win.
Rhodes posted the first five runs, with four in the first inning, which included a
Maggie Mitchell three-run homer. Rhodes added a single run in the second off a Caroline Riley sacrifice fly that scored
Erin Parker.
Hendrix worked to add two runs in the third inning, but
Allison Long had an answer in the same frame when she went yard on a solo shot to push ahead 6-2.
The Warriors added four runs in the fourth inning to knot the contest at 6-6. In the fifth inning, the Lynx got back their edge when
Erin Parker singled to score
Kirsten Samuels.
Despite the Warriors tying the contest in the sixth, the Lynx rallied to add the game winning run in the bottom of the inning when Martin singled in Skelton for the 8-7 win.
Rhodes wracked 10 hits in the outing, paced by Parker who went 3-for-4. The Lynx speed couldn't be tamed, as Rhodes picked up an impressive eight stolen bases in the contest.
Reilly got the start for the Lynx, throwing for five complete innings and striking out three. Long finished the contest, throwing two full innings and picking up the win.
Rhodes will be back on the diamond on March 25 to finish the series against Hendrix College.
