Rhodes falls to No. 3 Emory, 9-0

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Lynx squared off against the No. 5 ranked national team Emory University on Saturday.

The Lynx had been looking forward to the match to see how far they have come in the season and were ready for the challenge.  After Emory dispatched Kalamazoo earlier in the day, the highly anticipated match begin in tough fashion for the Lynx doubles unit.

After going down an early break on all courts, the Lynx found themselves in a hole.  Olivier/Patton were able to stay on serve, with team serving up aces and digging tough volleys to stay with national ranked pair of Ruderman/Wagner.  The Emory duo stepped up their serving and returning, putting pressure on Patton's serve and earned a break after displaying quality doubles moves; closing the net and picking off returns in the middle.

Sowden/Vacheron were close to putting their opponents over the edge, displaying quality doubles at No. 3.  Sowden was returning well and putting pressure on Mosetick/Omsky's serves. The pair nearly broke Omsky's serve but were unable to capture the big points at 6-3 after displaying great closing and impressive overheads throughout the game.  Blatt/Brilliant had a battle of a match, coming back from 6-3 deficit to bring the match to 7-6 on Haupern's serve.

The Lynx pair had broken Haupern twice throughout the match and were quickly up again at 30-0, looking to break again.  Brilliant was unable to secure the return, just missing long, and Haupern, breathing a sigh of relief, was able to close out with three huge serves to win.

Singles matches went in Emory's favor as the Lynx mustered up all their fight.  All courts found themselves in a hole early and fought hard to resist the Eagles assault.  Blatt found himself in a hole early in the first set, but was able to push Ruderman in the second.  Brilliant found himself in a dog fight early in the second and was able to break Haupern early in the second set.  Unable to hold serve, Haupern put the pressure right back on Brilliant as he held serve.  Haupern was able to run away with the match with Brilliant holding serve only once more in the set.  Vacheron found himself struggling to hold serve against Mosetick, quickly getting down a set and a break.  Vacheron held serve and nearly broke Mosetick in the second, but could not convert on his chances.  Sowden displayed his most impressive shot making ability against Wagner at No. 4 singles, but was unable to keep up that level for the duration of the match.

Daniel Olivier was the closest to earning a set against Josh Goodman, leading his fellow sophomore throughout the duration of the second set.  Olivier's drop shots and big serve were able to keep Goodman off balance.  At 4-3 in the second set Olivier was unable to hold serve, giving Goodman the break with a timely forehand error.  Jack Patton seemed overwhelmed at No. 6 and could not muster up a strong enough defense against Aman Manji.

The Lynx head off to Danville, Ky. and Sewannee, Tenn. to play their first conference matches this weekend.  This will be their last matches on the road as they look to start their conference campaign.
