MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Rhodes College Women's tennis team suffered a heartbreaking loss today to the Millsaps Majors in the quarterfinals of the SAA Conference Tournament at Old Fort Park in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. 
 
After losing all three doubles to the Majors in the first meeting between the two teams this year during the regular season, the Lynx were able to take second doubles and looked to improve their 6-3 loss on March 30.  Elyse Smith and Morgan Wilkins defeated Laura Kebert and Lauren Pratt 8-6 to keep the match close at 2-1 going into singles competition.
 
On what started out as a cold, dreary day, the warm sun showed up around the start of singles play and the Lynx looked sharp, taking the first sets on courts four through six and with Wilkins in a close first set at line two singles.  Smith overturned her three set loss to Bianca Suarez in the team's first meeting with a decisive 6-2, 6-4 win and Kristal Skrmetta looked unstoppable at line five against Lauren Pratt, cleaning up with a 6-2, 6-3 victory for the Lynx.
 
Macon Wilson did not play in the first match at the end of March, but came out on fire at No. 6 singles winning the first set 6-2.  However, those would be the last sets that Rhodes would claim against Millsaps as Amelia McIsaac would fall at first singles 6-1, 6-2, Anna Volkov would drop a 6-1, 6-1 decision at line 3, Macon Wilson would drop her final two sets 6-0, 6-3, and with the match clinched for the Majors, Wilkins would fall 6-4, 6-3.
 
The Lynx will compete for 5th/6th place and the SAA All-Sports Cup Points that go along with that honor tomorrow morning, 9 a.m. at Old Fort Park vs. Berry/Centre
