ATLANTA, Ga. – The women's tennis match came down to the wire Saturday against Southern Athletic Association opponent Oglethorpe University with the Lynx coming out on top due to a valiant effort by third singles player
Anna Volkov.
Both second and third doubles matches split quickly with
Morgan Wilkins and
Elyse Smith taking the line two point for Rhodes. First doubles was a competitive match between the Lynx and the Petrels, but unfortunately Rhodes fell behind 2-1 going into the singles play.
Having been in a 1-2 deficit situation several times this season, the women's tennis team settled in and grinded out four singles points to clinch the victory. None more important than the final match of the day on court three between first-year
Anna Volkov and Katherine Walker of Oglethorpe.
Volkov took the first set 6-3, but fell in the second set 4-6. With
Morgan Wilkins's win on court two, the team score was tied 4-4 going into the final set. Volkov got out to an early 3-0 lead and never looked back, closing out the final set 6-4 and clinching the victory for the Lynx 5-4.
The Women's Tennis Team is back in action April 13 in Rome, Ga. against Berry College at 9 a.m.
