JACKSON, MS – The Women's Tennis Team dropped their first match of the spring season to conference opponent Millsaps College, 6-3.
 
The Lynx got out to a rough start against the Majors losing all three doubles matches and really putting themselves in a deep hole.  Amelia McIsaac and Anna Volkov were not on the same page and were really struggling with the wind, losing 8-1. 
 
Almost more uncharacteristic were the 8-3 defeats suffered by Elyse Smith and Morgan Wilkins on court two and Kristal Skrmetta and Alli Heinemeyer on court three.  The ladies struggled to make first serves and put the pressure on their opponents, but their flat start did not derail their concentration going into singles play.
 
Amelia McIsaac had a tough first set at first singles, dropping the opener 6-1, but fought hard to a 6-1, 6-4 decision against Deena Li Kam Wa.  Morgan Wilkins battled hard to a 6-3, 6-4 win against Callie Creekmore. 
 
When Anna Volkov beat Laura Kebert 6-2, 6-4 for the Lynx's second point, Elyse Smith had just taken her first set 6-3 and things were looking up for Rhodes.  Kristal Skrmetta took fifth singles with a 6-3, 6-1 win, but it was not enough as Hillary Connell fell 6-2, 6-2 at line 6, and Elyse Smith would fall to Bianca Suarez in three sets.
 
The Women's Team is back in action tomorrow, March 30 at 9 a.m. on the campus of Birmingham Southern College.
