MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Rhodes women's lacrosse team picked up their third win of the season over St. Mary's College, 19-4.
The Lynx improve to 3-2 on the year while the Belle's open their season 0-2.
Rhodes opened the contest with nine straight unanswered goals, including three scores from
Morgan Fuller, two goals from
Tori Van Heyst and a goal apiece from
Ashley Dill,
Jenny Bitzer,
Emily Teague and
Lindsay Gess. St. Mary's netted one first half goal from the stick of Sarah Neeser, to make the count 9-1 with 8:05 to play in the opening half.
Coach Brice Queener's squad closed out the half strong, with four more goals, from Bitzer, Dill,
Lisle Bruns and Van Heyst to take a 13-1 lead into the half.
Rhodes continued the scoring fest in the second half with Fuller getting on the board early to make the count 14-1. Van Heyst added another goal with
Andrea Lombardi getting into the scoring column with her goal. Lombardi netted another goal after two St. Mary's goals to make the count 17-3.
The Lynx finished strong, relinquishing one more goal and scoring two more from
Breanna Sommers and
Maiar Salameh to take home the 19-4 victory.
Four different goal keepers saw time for the Lynx, with
Sarah Daniels earning the start and the win for the Lynx. While in net, Daniels grabbed two saves.
Erin Hisey also saw time with seven minutes in goal.
Lucy Rosenbloom began the second half, grabbing three saves.
Alyssa Tews finished the contest in goal and grabbed one save in her time in goal.
Stephanie Szymas grabbed 11 saves in the net for the Belle's as she earned all St. Mary's 60 minutes.
Rhodes outshot their opponents by a count of 33-14, while also picking up more ground balls by a count of 9-5.
Rhodes will return to the filed tomorrow, March 11 to face off against Defiance College at 12 p.m.
