Conway, Ark. - The Rhodes College women's tennis team earned their first conference win Sunday over Hendrix College while moving to 2-1 on the year.
 
Coming off of a strong showing against Austin College Saturday at Hendrix, the Lynx were tested right away with strong doubles play from the Warriors at lines one and three.  Alli Heinemeyer and Kristal Skrmetta fell behind 4-1 to open their doubles match, but came from behind to win 9-7.  Anna Volkov and Amelia McIsaac traded leads and breaks of serve with Ravikumar and Mahaney before closing the match out in similar fashion 9-7.  Morgan Wilkins and Elyse Smith started strong and never looked back en route to an 8-2 victory to complete the doubles sweep.
 
Looking to avenge her loss at line three singles Saturday, Anna Volkov played with a purpose winning 6-1, 6-0 decisively for the first singles point of the match.  Not far behind were Wilkins and Heinemeyer winning at No. 2 and No. 6 singles 6-0, 6-0 and 6-3, 6-1.  Skrmetta collected the straight-set victory at line five 6-2, 6-4.
 
The only points of the match for Hendrix came at first and fourth singles over McIsaac and Smith.  McIsaac fought hard at line one forcing her opponent to earn every point she won in the second set, falling 6-2, 7-6 (8-6).  Smith played her opponent to another close decision, forcing both sets deep into extra games 7-6 (7-5), 7-5.
 
The Women's Team is back in action in Atlanta, GA at the inaugural Southern Shootout hosted by Oglethorpe University.  They face Agnes Scott College 12pm, Saturday, March 1 and Christopher Newport University at 9am.
